A 15-year-old boy is to appear in a Thompson court this morning on charges arising out of incident early Saturday in the northern Manitoba city in which a young woman was attacked and seriously injured.

The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Justice Criminal Act, is being held in custody on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated sexual assault.

Thompson RCMP said this morning that at about 3:20 a.m. Saturday they received a report of a woman screaming in an outdoor area in the Riverside area of Thompson. When they arrived they found a 22-year-old woman who had been sexually assaulted lying on the ground and a male youth fleeing the scene.

A youth was taken into custody and the injured woman was rushed by ambulance to Thompson General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery and was later reported to be in serious but stable condition.
