JURY POLL
Manitoba parole violator apprehended 14 years later
DATE: Mar 11, 02:38 PM
By Winnipeg Free Press
You can run but you can’t hide forever from the U.S. Marshal.
A fugitive from Manitoba convicted of robbing and beating an 84-year-old store owner who died six weeks later in the 1980s has been arrested in Seattle.
Henry Arthur Kent was arrested Wednesday by members of the Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force, with special agents from the housing and urban development office of the inspector general.
Kent had served 13 years of a life sentence for non-capital murder and had been released on supervised parole in 1996 when he took off.
The RCMP issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest at the time, with the warning that Kent “is considered to be violent and an escape risk. Take no action to apprehend this person yourself.”
Authorities in the U.S. said they received a tip recently on Kent’s whereabouts in Seattle. A warrant was issued Tuesday by the U.S. District Court in Seattle for the arrest of Kent and his eventual extradition back to Manitoba.
