B'nai Brith Canada says reports of anti-Semitism up 11% in Canada since '09

DATE: Feb 24, 08:56 AM

THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO – B’nai Brith Canada says reports of anti-Semitic incidents in Canada are on the rise.

According to the group’s League for Human Rights, there were 1,264 hate incidents reported in 2009, 11 per cent more than the previous year. The group says the number represents a five-fold increase in incidents reported over the last decade.

The annual audit found there were 884 cases of harassment and 348 incidents of vandalism.

There were also 32 incidents of violence, double the number reported in the previous year.

The incidents are reported to a hotline and collected through web-based reporting. The group also has police partners it works with across the country.
